President Obama had a meeting with Congressional Republicans today - they wanted to voice their concerns about the scope of his proposed stimulus package. Obama's response? "I won." Meaning - I don't have to listen to you people. I won the election and I can do what I want.
Harry Reid later seemed to echo the post-partisanship of Obama - when asked if he has any concern about Republicans blocking the stimulus bill, he flatly answered, "No."
Obama and the Congressional Democrats are feeling pretty good about themselves right now. But if they think they can get away with whatever they want, they better think again.
As House Minority Leader John Boehner asked, "How does [spending hundred of millions of dollars on contraceptives] stimulate the economy?"
I have a feeling the Republicans are going to be a vocal minority at this point and attempt to let the American people know everything that Obama is attempting to do. And if Obama and his cronies in Congress think they have carte blanche, they are very mistaken.

I am not one to advocate losing elections, but I think this is exactly what needed to happen for Republicans to get their heads out of their butts and remember who they work for and what they believe in.
I think this is setting us up nicely for a 2010 Contract With America. I wonder who will step up as the new leader of the Republican Party? It certainly won't be John McCain.
the problem is that a lot of the good people in the party are governors right now, and not in Congress.
I like Michael Steele a lot, and if he can lean on guys like Newt and Mitt for grand ideas, while allowing Jindal, Palin, Pawlenty and others to set an example for the good that can come from conservative executive leadership, then we will have a chance in the future.
